Benfica 1989-91 Hummel Home Shirt

The shirt style Benfica wore in the 1990 European Cup Final - which this is an example of - may have been associated with coming up short, but it being carried over into 1990-91 meant it was a part of As Águias becoming Portuguese champions for the 29th time.

Carrying the branding of Hummel by way of a chest logo, chevrons on the sleeves and even the jacquard pattern, the design keeps to red with white embellishment apart from the intricately embroidered crest, which is in full colour.

The combination of overlapping v-neck and not-insubstantial collar evokes a great period for football kit design, and a period when Benfica were a serious player at home and abroad.

This shirt has been used since March 1990, when SL Benfica changed from Adidas to Hummel in the middle of the 1989/90 season.
