This George Best shirt, with Bukta and Athletic Stores labels, was recently put up for auction, with interest unsurprisingly high, and a closing bid of £8,000.
Best played, most famously, for Manchester United, and while he never appeared on the World Cup stage, the sadly departed legend also turned out for Northern Ireland and he made headlines in that context too.
Thought to have been worn in Best’s early outings with his international team, the crest is mounted on a white patch and “El Beatle’s” number 7 is stitched to the reverse for a simple look which, sixty years later, makes for a very valuable item.
This item was sold by Graham Budd Auctions, a specialist in sporting memorabilia.
