George Burley represented his country as both a player and a manager and this international shirt, from before Burley hung up his boots, recently sold for £800 at auction.
With pioneering lettering on the back of the number 2 shirt, in italicised Cooper Black no less, the item is both anachronistic and evidently contemporary, and the latter is added to with the inclusion of Umbro’s trademark shoulder-and-sleeve taping and the contrasting winged collar.
Adding to the attractiveness are the long sleeves and, naturally, the beautiful Scotland national team crest, all on a shirt that was part of an impressive victory over Portugal at Hampden Park.
This item was sold by Graham Budd Auctions, a specialist in sporting memorabilia.
