Commenting on the announcement Jonathan Courtenay, Director of football at Umbro said;

 “I’m delighted that we have been able to put this great initiative together. It is sure to be a winner and I’m delighted to be working with the Irish Cancer Society again after the success of the pink jerseys Umbro did for the League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers and for Bohemian FC in 2009. The Rovers Pink kit sold out in 3 days and I think with this being an Ireland shirt we would hope for a similar record sell-out time. I would also like to thank our FAI/Umbro partner stores and 3 mobile for their support of the project. I’d advise anyone who wants one to act fast and pre-order it on-line as the initial interest has been huge”.

Commenting on the announcement Jim O’Malley of the Irish Cancer Society said;

"We are absolutely delighted that Umbro is working with Action Breast Cancer. Through their support, Umbro has played an important lead in fundraising for this increasingly common and often life-altering disease. One in 11 women living in Ireland will develop breast cancer during their lifetime so it is imperative that we continue to promote the breast awareness message and continue to raise vital funds enabling Irish scientists to find new therapies to prevent breast cancer, better techniques to diagnose it accurately and ultimately new treatments which will cure it. Umbro is coming up with fresh and exciting ways to raise funds and we hope that in the future we will see more initiatives like this.”

    Breast cancer effect 15% of males Directly, however I must agree with RMB it would be nice for football to put more funds into testicular / prostrate cancer research etc.

    OK fair enough I suppose but I wish male sports would at least put just 10% as much effort into raising funds for male cancers... :-?
