Marking the first of two centenaries that Manchester United have celebrated in the last half century, this special 1978-79 shirt recently sold for £2,800 at auction.
With recognisable Admiral stylings of the time - most notably the striping on the winged collar and on the long sleeves’ cuffs - and an embroidered commemorative crest marking the 100 years since United’s birth (as Newton Heath LYR Football Club) in 1878, the design remains classic to this day.
Long before squad numbers were in use in English club football, the reverse interestingly features a contrasting number 19.
