This Roberto Baggio shirt recently sold for £2200 at auction.
The Diadora style worn in the 1992 US Cup match against the USA at Soldier Field in Chicago, the shirt is complete with the number 20 The Divine Ponytail wore on the front and back of his trunk in that mini tournament.
Baggio scored the Azzurri’s goal against the Americans, and he returned stateside two years later to light up USA ’94 - before so dramatically missing his kick from the penalty mark to deliver victory to Brazil in the Final.
Despite that disappointment, Baggio remains one of the most gifted players ever to play the beautiful game, meaning the £750-1000 estimate on this item always seemed a little conservative.
