SC Freiburg of Germany, since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, have been offering, in line with restrictions, online-based sports programmes - Füchsle-Ballschule online - to local children, to ensure they don’t miss out on the playing of sport during the difficult period being experienced in Germany and beyond. To publicise and fund an expansion to this initiative, Freiburg have released a special edition shirt.
Usual sponsor Schwarzwaldmilch has donated part of its prime real estate positioning on the front of the shirt to the campaign - by way of the hashtag, #SCFreiburghilft - and the Badenova branding on the sleeve is replaced with words summing up the ethos of the venture: “Mehr als Fußball” (more than football).
The shirt, which was worn in the Bundesliga against Borussia Mönchengladbach, is in the usual red and white stripes with the crest and Hummel logo in black. It is being retailed as a 1904-unit special edition - referencing the club’s year of formation, which appears on the upper back, high over the embossed city skyline low down.
